Caring for your jewelry

Many women enjoy wearing jewelry every day. However, with regular use, these accessories can lose their shine and color. Water, sun, and time can alter the beauty of the materials used in earrings , bracelets , and necklaces . The leather jewelry we offer at Nune is special: the materials they are made of require specific care. We present some tips, ideas, and tricks for taking care of your precious leather jewelry. Follow the guide!

Leather, an elegant and delicate material

Recycled leather

As beautiful as it may be, leather is still fragile; many things can damage it and make it lose its luster. This is especially true of humidity: when it comes into contact with water, it can deteriorate and lose its color. Therefore , you should avoid wearing this type of jewelry in the following situations: showering, swimming pools, the beach, or outdoors in heavy rain . The same applies to sports and physical activities during which you might sweat: sweat and damp skin are harmful to your earrings, necklaces, pendants, and bracelets. This is true for all types of leather, including vegan leather.

Here are some other useful tips regarding leather.

  • Do not apply perfume, lotion, cream or toothpaste to your jewelry.
  • Avoid exposing them to the sun for too long.
  • Take care of your precious pieces to ensure their longevity. To protect them from shocks and humidity, make it a habit to store and keep them in a jewelry box or a dedicated case.

Caring for your leather jewelry

Here are some tips for cleaning your costume leather jewelry .

Never use water, salt water, soap, or cleaning products: you risk damaging the surface of the material and creating stains. To care for leather, a simple soft, dry cloth is sufficient: rub your pieces by hand, without pressure. Note that glittered or dyed materials are more delicate than raw materials .

At Nune, we also use other materials that you can clean. However, avoid contact with the leather when using water or specific cleaning products. For example, you can use a small piece of cloth or magic wipes, which can be found at a jeweler's , to clean the metal parts without touching the leather.

The Artea earrings, graphic and elegant in the shape of half-moons, are handmade with thin pieces of raw cork, gilded or silvered Two-tone bracelet with a gold buckle, made from recycled leathers: crinkled rose gold and grained burnished gray, wrapped around a roll of white leather, top view

Brass is an alloy that can tarnish due to oxidation. To remove the oxidation, you can soak a cloth in white vinegar and apply it to the oxidized surface. Rinse with a little water and dry the cleaned surface. You can also polish brass with dish soap, which acts as a degreaser. Stainless steel is cleaned in the same way, but you can also clean it and scrub any marks with Marseille soap, which you then rinse with water, always taking care to avoid any contact with leather.

Bronze also tends to oxidize over time. It can be restored to its shine with a cotton ball lightly dampened with white vinegar or Marseille soap. As for silver plating and fine gold-plated elements, a simple chamois cloth or soft cloth can be used to achieve an elegant and glossy finish. These are fragile pieces: we advise you to handle them with care to preserve their beauty for years to come.

Depending on their chemical composition, natural stones can be more or less fragile. To avoid damaging them, we recommend cleaning them with a soft, dry cloth.
